What is Armour Etch and Sticker Stencils?

Let's take a quick look at Armour Etch and Sticker Stencils. Armour Etch is a fast-acting etching cream that is used to create permanent etched designs on glass and mirrors. Our Sticker Stencils are made from Metamark SprayMask, which is a temporary adhesive vinyl typically used in the sign painting industry. The adhesive is more than sticky enough to grip will onto glass and not allow leakage but is also easy to remove and won't leave much residue (if any) behind.

Materials You Will Need for Glass Etching

To get started with your etching project, you will need the following materials:

  • Armour Etch etching cream
  • Your sticker stencil (supplied by Sticker Stop of course!)

  • Glass surface to be etched

  • Safety glasses

Steps for Etching Glass with Armour Etch and your Sticker Stencil

  1. Choose your design: The first step in any etching project is to choose your design. You can find free designs online, or create your own using a design software like Adobe Illustrator. Send us your design and we'll turn it into a stencil and send it out to you. There's more information about creating a sticker stencil design below.

  2. Apply the sticker stencil to the glass: Carefully place your vinyl design on your glass surface, using your squeegee to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.

  3. Apply Armour Etch: Put on your gloves and safety glasses. Using a paintbrush, apply a thick layer of Armour Etch etching cream over your entire design. Be sure to cover every part of the design, as any missed areas will not be etched.

  4. Wait: Leave the Armour Etch etching cream on your design for 5-10 minutes, depending on the depth of etch you desire.

  5. Rinse and remove vinyl: Rinse off the Armour Etch etching cream with cold water. Carefully remove your vinyl stencil, taking care not to scratch your design.

  6. Clean and admire: Use a glass cleaner to clean your etched glass. Stand back and admire your artistic genius!

You can send us the file, logo or image that you’d like made as a stencil to sales@stickerstop.com.au and we’ll take a look at it and get back to you with a quote or some information. If you have the file available in a vector format (.AI, .EPS, .PDF) that would be ideal but we will still take a look at your raster (JPEG, BMP, GIF) images too. Note that, for us to be able to use them with our machine, it will need to be made into a vector format. If you’re not able to do this yourself, we can probably do it for you, however there is a charge ($15 minimum) involved depending on the complexity of the image.
